VA employs 7,167 of the 325,000 licensed nurse practitioners across the nation. They diagnose, treat and manage acute, chronic and episodic complaints, with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention to positively impact Veteran patient outcomes.
VA nurse practitioners work in a variety of settings, including inpatient care, Community-Based Outpatient Clinics and emergency rooms.
VA, Patient Care Services and the Office of Nursing Services proudly celebrate National Nurse Practitioners Week Nov. 13-19. The theme this year is “VA Nurse Practitioners – Proudly Serving America’s Heroes.”
This year’s theme highlights VA’s exceptional nurse practitioners and their contributions in advancing Veteran care.
Nurse practitioners play critical role in access to care for Veterans
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners founded this special week in 2014 to celebrate their role and wonderful impact on patients and health care. VA recognizes them for their clinical expertise as full practice providers and the critical role they play in increasing access to care for Veterans throughout the VA health care system.
During this special week in November, VA will offer opportunities to increase awareness of the nurse practitioner role. A simple, genuine “thank you for your hard work and all that you do” is often the most treasured gift of all.
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners is also hosting a celebratory event that you can follow on the Today Show Nov. 15.
VA’s Office of Nursing Service wishes to acknowledge and thank the dedicated nurse practitioners who proudly serve America’s heroes.
