VA’s Office of Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance follows disaster alerts that are issued by each state department of insurance in the event of natural disaster. These alerts generally provide a moratorium on lapsing or extension of premium payments.
If your school is temporarily closed, VA will consider your attendance as continuous and your benefits will not be affected.

VA Maui clinic response
The VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic on Maui converted some Veteran appointments from face-to-face to telehealth.
VA contacted 138 Veterans on the island via VETEXT. Staff followed up with four Veterans needing assistance. Veterans needing oxygen were contacted to ensure they have enough supply.
The Maui clinic is working with VA Pharmacy to ensure Veterans get a 90-day resupply of medications for those in need and in temporary housing.
Of the 10 Lahaina Veterans in the clinic on Thursday seeking medicine refills, a few had minor injuries or wounds.
