Maui fire assistance information for Veterans

This information on assistance has been sent to 52,000 Veterans who live in Hawaii: Hawaii Wildfires: Veteran Disaster Resources (govdelivery.com). It contains disaster assistance information including arrangements for possible interruptions in benefits payments.

VA’s Office of Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance follows disaster alerts that are issued by each state department of insurance in the event of natural disaster. These alerts generally provide a moratorium on lapsing or extension of premium payments.

If your school is temporarily closed, VA will consider your attendance as continuous and your benefits will not be affected.

After a disaster, if you’re a Veteran, you can find help and support through VA and other resources on this page.

Please reach out if you need us. If you need help determining where to go for care or have questions about the VA resources available to you, please call the Honolulu VA Medical Center at 1-800-214-1306.

VA Maui clinic response

The VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic on Maui converted some Veteran appointments from face-to-face to telehealth.

VA contacted 138 Veterans on the island via VETEXT. Staff followed up with four Veterans needing assistance. Veterans needing oxygen were contacted to ensure they have enough supply.

The Maui clinic is working with VA Pharmacy to ensure Veterans get a 90-day resupply of medications for those in need and in temporary housing.

Of the 10 Lahaina Veterans in the clinic on Thursday seeking medicine refills, a few had minor injuries or wounds.

Here is information on how you can donate to assist Veterans affected by the fires. On this form, please specify:
