Informational VA podcast leads wide-ranging discussion on federal government’s retirement plan

Deciding when and how much to invest for retirement is one of most important financial decisions people will make in their lifetime. However, it can also be one of the most complex and challenging ones with several tax rules, fund types and investment plans to utilize. One such plan, available to members of the uniformed services and federal government employees, is the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).

The TSP is a retirement savings and investment plan similar to a company-sponsored 401(k) plan, with slight differences in fees, matching contributions and funds available for investment. Whether you are new to investing and wondering whether the TSP is right for you, or already use TSP but want to know the difference between fund types C, F and S, it may be difficult to know where to get the right answers.

Enter theSITREP, an informational podcast and video series co-hosted by Paul Corbett, Michael McNamara and James Christie. Short for “situation report,” theSITREP covers issues of interest to Veterans, often interviewing subject matter experts to provide information on the many benefits earned through military service. In the latest episode, Corbett was joined by Mike Jerue, the deputy chief investment officer for TSP. They discussed topics including the history of TSP, withdrawing funds during retirement and everything in between.
