CSP helps Veteran caregivers

VA understands the dedication and sacrifice of caregivers who look after our nation’s Veterans in need. The Caregiver Support Program (CSP) seeks to assist in managing Veterans’ care. Its mission is to promote the health and well-being of caregivers who care for those who served, focusing on improving the quality of life for caregivers.

To achieve this mission, VA hosts a trained and qualified local CSP team at each VA medical facility that delivers support and service referrals. Local teams share valuable resources to inform and support caregivers. This video has more details.

What is a Caregiver Support Program team?

CSP teams are comprised of Caregiver Support Coordinators, social workers, nurses, and other professionals who offer support by listening to your unique needs and matching you with services for which you are eligible. They provide you with valuable knowledge and resources within VA and the community to help you stay informed, supported and organized as you care for the Veteran you love and yourself.

How can a CSP team help you?

A local team can help you by offering individualized support and connecting you with people who can also help. The team coaches meet your Veteran’s changing needs to help you set personal goals. They deliver one-on-one assistance and create a tailored plan to improve caregivers’ attention towards themselves.

The team shares tools to help with coping, emotion management, stress reduction, building confidence and improving day-to-day activities. They can also connect you with support services, such as peer support mentoring, Building Better Caregivers, self-care courses, a community of Veteran caregivers, and more.

These and other CSP resources can help caregivers decrease feelings of isolation and increase a sense of community.
