A breath of fresh air: VA’s rural locations offer unique opportunities

When almost a quarter of all Veterans in the United States reside in rural communities, we know we have to meet them where they live. That means providing care all across the country, including many places you might not expect.

From the greater sense of privacy, allure of open space, fewer people, or lower cost of living, there’s a lot to enjoy about working in a rural VA. You might also find some unique or even historical features you might not otherwise know about.

For example, do you know:

  • Which location is the home to one of the first Veterans’ facility developed by the United States?
  • Which community has the longest continuously running county fair in the United States?
  • Which American town is mentioned on the opening page of “Finnegan’s Wake” by James Joyce?
  • Which suburb was once declared the most affordable suburb by Realtor.com?

And did you know there’s a VA facility in all of those places? There are hidden gems like these all over the country and plenty of opportunity to offer the care Veterans deserve in the towns they love.
